KRAVIG RED ANGUS

Our Story.

Kravig Red Angus…

…..is a family-owned and operated cattle operation that has been raising top notch Red Angus cattle in Eastern Colorado for over 30 years. Located approximately 80 miles east of Colorado Springs, Karval Colorado is our home. We are a family operation through and through, meaning all of our day-to-day operations are done by the few people on the ranch. With four young children and also holding jobs off of the ranch, it makes our weaning, calving and breeding seasons very busy. Thus it is very important for us to put a great deal of emphasis on calving ease and quiet dispositions in order for everything to run smoothly.

our operation…

The heart of our operation resolves around the mother cow. She must possess a sound udder, a quiet disposition, be moderate framed, easily fleshing and have excellent structure with an emphasis on her foot and leg structure. Our cows are not pampered and, in order to stick around on our ranch, they must be able to “work” for a living while maintaining their body condition and breed back in the first two cycles after the bulls are turned out. Take a look at just a few of our cows and let them do the talking for us.

Keeping with our philosophy of low input cattle that “work for you” we calve our cows on the short grass prairie starting in late march with our AI bred cattle and then begin our natural service bred cows and heifers in Early April and end in May.  We put a lot of emphasis on calving ease and expect all our females to calve un assisted.  The calves are weaned at roughly 180 days of age and are then turned back out on grass.

Efficient cattle are the key to success in this industry. We strive to raise, deep bodied, heavy muscled cattle that know how to perform and grow on minimal inputs.  Through years of selecting for efficiency and “do-ability” we have been able to achieve a cow herd that fits our motto of “Cattle Working For You.”   We retain and use our own bulls for both AI and natural service as well as purchasing some of the best bulls we can find that fit our program in terms in calving ease, growth, carcass and efficiency.   The cattle have been bred to perform on the short grass prairies of Eastern Colorado and will thrive in almost any environment. These traits are passed on from generation to generation creating the ideal cow who will stay on the land and generate a profit year after year.

** Our Annual Bull Sale takes place each year in early April. We typically offer 60 head of bulls and a select group of registered yearling heifers in the sale. Each fall we purchase heifer calves back from customers who use our genetics.  These heifer calves are developed the same way as our own philosophy and are then bred in June and July.  The heifers then run on our short grass prairie all summer long and are marketed each fall. We always offer private treaty sales. **

We live to produce quality Red Angus cattle that are ready to go to work for our customers! We always have, and always will breed and produce our cattle with the commercial cattlemen in mind!
